How We Tested Disco Block

SPF 50 isn’t just a number—it has to be earned.

Here’s what it takes to make a sunscreen truly worthy of that label (and how Disco Block got there):

1

Confirmed by FDA testing protocols

To legally claim SPF 50 protection, a sunscreen must undergo in vivo static SPF testing - an FDA regulated testing protocol that is required to be conducted on at least 10 human subjects. This test measures UVB protection and is done at an independent, third party lab. Safe to say, Disco Block passed with flying colors (and none of them were red). To ensure continued accuracy, we also conducted a smaller follow-up study to confirm our formula continues to provide SPF 50 protection.

2

Broad-spectrum coverage (aka UVA protection, too)

The gold standard for UVA protection is the critical wavelength test, done in-vitro (in a lab, not on skin). It confirms that you’re protected from more than just sunburn. Spoiler: We passed that, too.

3

Water resistance testing

Ever wonder what “water resistant SPF” actually means? Here’s the deal: test subjects apply the sunscreen, get into a temperature-controlled water bath (yes, like a giant jacuzzi), swim or move for 20 minutes, rest for 15, then repeat. After that, SPF levels are tested again to make sure they still hold up. It’s no small feat — and we did it.

4

Sensitivity tested on real skin

To make sure it plays nice with sensitive skin, we ran what’s called a RIPT (Repeat Insult Patch Test). It’s the industry standard to rule out irritation or allergic reactions, and Disco Block came back with zero red flags.

5

Stability and packaging compatibility

Our formula has been tested to ensure it doesn’t separate, degrade, or lose effectiveness over time and a great formula is nothing without great packaging. Disco Block has been tested in a range of extreme conditions to ensure stability (testing at 4°C, 25°C, 40°C, 45°C, and 50°C).

6

Certificate of Analysis for every batch

Every single testing and production batch is tested to ensure it contains the correct amount of active UV filters — and is as effective as the previous one.

7

Compliant with FDA labeling and regulations

We’ve registered with the FDA, submitted the paperwork, and followed every rule to a T — including strict drug labeling requirements. No shortcuts, no shady language.

TL;DR:

We didn’t cut corners. We did it the right way — so you get SPF 50 protection you can trust, from the first try to the last squeeze.
