Finding your perfect sunscreen match is no easy feat as not all SPFs are created equal. There are three factors to consider when making your choice:
- Your skin type,
- Your lifestyle and,
- Your skin tone.
Like all other skincare items, for sunscreen newbies, finding the right formulation for your skin needs can be overwhelming — particularly when you're so overloaded by choice. So in order to make your quest a little easier, I did all the work, so you don’t have to!

Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50, $18
I learned about this baby through all of you on Instagram and TikTok. It's a gorgeous hybrid sunscreen that merges physical and chemical UV filters. Other bonuses — it’s a lightweight broad-spectrum formulation with a PA++++ rating so expect a supreme level of UVA and UVB protection.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer with SPF 30, $20
If you’re looking for a sunscreen that will lock in all your layers of hydration beneath, this is a great buy. It’s a broad-spectrum chemical SPF that’s infused with niacinamide and ceramides to help seal moisture. If you have dry skin, apply this over your daily moisturizer, and for oilier complexions, smear this on solo as a moisturizer and SPF combo. Texture-wise, this won't leave a sticky residue, and most importantly, it’s white-cast-free, making it suitable for all skin tones.
SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50, $36
For the sensitive souls out there, I always recommend opting for physical sunscreens - especially if you live in the US as the broad-spectrum filters offered here aren’t as good as the ones found abroad from brands like K-Beauty’s Purito and Beauty of Joseon. However, SkinCeuticals is an OG formula that I really love. It’s fast-absorbing and extremely lightweight, and by extremely lightweight, I mean borderline liquid-like, so ensure that you apply 2-3 fingers worth of it. It also doesn’t leave an ashy cast on the skin, so you can layer on more if you wish and not have to worry about looking ghostly.
ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica Sunscreen with SPF 50+, $60
If you’re late to the SPF game, there’s no judgment here — I’m just happy you finally made the decision to incorporate some sun protection into your routine. Sadly, you most likely will have some sun damage, so you’ll want a sunscreen that will not only protect your skin but also reverse existing damage. ISDIN is one of my favorite beginner-friendly mineral SPFs as it contains Patented DNA Repairsomes that work to repair sun damage. It does leave behind a slightly grey finish, so rather opt for the tinted option.
Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 40, $36
I have been a fan of Glowscreen since I met it — it was literally love at first blend. It works beautifully on ALL skin tones and makes you look like a deliciously dewy donut. Sometimes I even apply it over my makeup to the high points of my face for some extra definition and radiance. However, if you have sensitive eyes, avoid applying this around the eye area as it will cause irritation but if you’re not sensitive, go absolutely WILD!
Tarte Sea Set & Protect SPF 30 Mineral Powder Sunscreen, $29
When it comes to SPF powders, I would never recommend them for full and daily coverage, but they’re great to have as top-up formulations when you’re on the move. Tarte’s has the best applicator — it’s a click-and-dust brush that lightly coats the skin and diminishes shine, and you can also use it as a scalp sunscreen.
EleVen by Venus Williams Game. Set. Match. Body Lotion SPF50, $38
For all the athletes and sun junkies out there, Venus William’s Game. Set. Match. SPF blend is a must-try. Full disclosure, I received one as a PR gift. It’s a physical broad-spectrum sunscreen that’s also infused with allantoin to treat and alleviate dryness.
Thinkbaby SPF 50+ Baby Sunscreen
If you’re paranoid about your kids and want to ensure they have beautiful skin in the future, Thinkbaby is ah-mazing. But just so you know, it will, without a doubt, leave them looking insanely ghostly as this is a non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen. I also make my young ones wear a hat and UPF guards as extra protection, especially when they’re in the water.
