Skincare for your tween years: Building good habits

What changes in your skin in your tween years?
Your skin is likely still happy and balanced in your tween years so the focus is on creating good habits with three key steps:

  • Cleansing
  • Moisturizing
  • Wearing sunscreen

What does this mean for your skincare routine in your tweens?

  1. Cleansing: The First Step Towards Clean Skin
A gentle cleanser is the cornerstone of any skincare routine, helping to wash away impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Opting for a gentle cleanser ensures thorough cleansing without exacerbating any existing skin concerns.
  2. Moisturizing: Nourishing the Skin Barrier
Regardless of skin type, moisturizing is key to maintain a balanced and healthy complexion. If your skin is oily, use a foaming cleanser and a lightweight gel moisturizer/sunscreen. If your skin is dry, use a hydrating cleanser with a creamy gel texture is great to support the skin barrier as well as a hydrating glycerin based moisturizer and sunscreen.
  3. Sun Protection: Shielding Against Harmful Rays
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine. Start building good habits for your skin now with consistent application of broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to shield skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, minimizing the risk of sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer.

What skincare products should tweens avoid?

    • Anti-aging products are not needed when your skin hasn’t even started aging
    • Retinols and exfoliating acids can be extremely irritating and way too harsh
    • Active ingredients are not necessary unless you are addressing a specific skin concern
